Marquis Miller

Vice-President, Servant-Leader, and Father in Chicago, Illinois

I am now Vice President, Economic Development, joining the External Affairs team in a new role focused on the Obama Foundation’s public economic impact commitments to our neighborhoods and with our civic and community organizations. Our stated goals and intended outcomes:

  • Work with community, business, government, and grassroots leaders to develop and implement a comprehensive economic development plan for the South Side through local chambers of commerce, community-based organizations, and the Emerald South Collaborative.
  • Support policies and tools that incentivize the development of a strong small business corridor around the Obama Presidential Center (OPC) and beyond -- one that consists of locally-owned business-to-consumer services, like retail, restaurants, and key resident services such as pharmacies.
  • Collaborate on the Foundation’s partnerships, neighborhood workshops on small business ownership and other neighborhood centered entrepreneurial training.

Prior to my current role, I served as principal advisor to the Foundation Executive Leadership Team on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and was the City of Chicago's first Chief Diversity Officer. As a veteran of business, civic and community organizations, I have a demonstrated record of success in the field of organizational change management, strategic planning and institutional advancement. I bring decades of experience in business and relationship development, non-profit governance (https://stories.mcachicago.org/speaker/marquis-miller/) and organizational leadership.
